Video Game-Themed Weddings

Rock Band

For Adele and John’s first dance, they required a few props: a projector, a screen, an Xbox, and their favorite game, “Rock Band.” They grabbed the guitars and rocked out to a rendition of a song by their favorite band, Coheed and Cambria. Their families then joined in on the fun and performed “The Power of Love.” Afterward, they moved the gaming equipment to a special area where guests could do their best Jimi Hendrix impressions all night long.

Halo

Desirai and John’s shared love of Halo brought them together — they met through Xbox Live and began regularly playing as teammates, making small talk between matches and quickly becoming friends. One day, when Desirai signed on to play a game with John, he wasn’t online. She left him a message with her number, telling him to call if he wanted to play. “I never thought he’d actually call, but I’m glad he did.” After that initial phone call, they began spending more time on the phone than playing the game, and they officially started dating in March of 2005, despite having never met in person. The following month, they finally met face-to-face — and three months later, Desirai moved down to Florida to attend college and be with John. After John proposed on their three-year anniversary, they knew that their wedding theme would be “A Match Made in Halo.”

Minecraft

Matt and Asia bonded over their love of the game of Minecraft. “They built a house together in the digital world and have been inseparable ever since, both in the game and in real life,” said their photographer, The Goodness. Matt even proposed to Asia on stage at MineCon, a Minecraft convention. Given their history, it was no surprise when they chose Minecraft for their wedding theme. They created pixel trees and characters from cardboard boxes, displayed artwork from the game, and even ordered custom Jones soda with emblems from the game on the labels.

Major Nelson in talks with team regarding possible reimbursement for Xbox Live outages

Even though Xbox Live is known for it’s generally stable online services, subscribers have been drawing the short straws as of late, with many cases of weak services and complete downtime all around. Recently, players have taken to Reddit to see what the teams over at Xbox has to say. In a post on the Xbox One subreddit, Xbox Live Director of Programming Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb has commented:

“I’ve taken some of the more thoughtful comments and shared them with a few folks on the Xbox team to make them aware of this request. That’s about all I’ve got right now – but when I am back in the office I am going to stop by and chat 1:1 with some folks about this as well.”

PlayStation 5 Development Underway, Xbox Two Expected Sooner

Despite both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One video games consoles still going strong for Sony and Microsoft respectively, the next generation systems are already in the pipeline. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Two are both anticipated before the end of the decade, and many video games analysts believe that the two new machines will arrive sooner than previous generations of the console series.

Shorter Timeframe

Previous PlayStation and Xbox consoles have existed in the mainstream for around seven years, with the overall cycle of a machine roughly lasting for a decade. But it is believed that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Two could go on sale sooner than anticipated for several reasons. Above all else, both consoles will look out of date in technology terms by 2020, and both Sony and Microsoft are expected to announce concrete plans about their replacements before then.
